About me

Hey Everybody,

My name is Paul Ratje, a native of Mesilla, New Mexico. I love taking pictures, traveling, rock climbing and good food. I came to Taiwan in 2011 and have spent time here learning Mandarin, teaching English and, most importantly, photographing. I love photographing new places and I especially love capturing people in my images. On thefotonomad.com I want to share my experiences and photos.  Please feel free to comment and share your ideas. Happy trails.

  1. Hello Paul, I was interested in your blog about finding a fixer in Bagan, because that’s exactly what I’m looking for for this July. I emailed Thein Zaw but haven’t heard back yet….not a problem. I tried calling him on the number you recommended, but it says “invalid number.” Do you think he has possibly changed his phone number? I am calling from Canada and put a 1 in front and also tried without the 1. Is there a trick I’m missing? I’d appreciate any help you can give! Thanks so much and thank you for the blog information. Very helpful! ~laura

    • Hello Laura,
Make sure you call over Skype using Skype to phone. When dialing you can select the Myanmar country code (+95), then paste in the number. Rates are quite high calling to Myanmar so try and keep it brief. For emails, it may take time for him to respond, the internet there is very slow and people don’t check as much as we do, at least presently.

  2. Thank you very much. I was finally able to reach him by phone, and he is going to help me out in Bagan. I forgot to ask him how much he charges, though! Do you recall what you paid?
